Approval for 362 flats at Barclays House !
- 07 June 2024
Exciting News from ARC Architecture!
We are thrilled to announce that our scheme for 362 apartments in the former Barclays House building has received approval!
Barclays House, constructed between 1972 and 1975, was originally designed by Wilson, Mason, and Partners in the brutalist style. This iconic building, with its three main octagonal wings, served as part of Barclays bank’s decentralization from London and has formed an iconic part of Poole’s skyline. Despite its historical significance, the building faced challenges such as flooding and structural sinking. A refurbishment in 2016 marked its 40th anniversary, but in October 2022, the Barclays logo was removed, signaling a new chapter for the building.
Here are some highlights of our approved project:
Efficient Use of Land: The redevelopment of an iconic, currently vacant building on urban, brownfield land.
Modern Accommodation: Conversion to 362 high-quality apartments, boosting the local housing supply and meeting diverse housing needs.
Quick Delivery: Rapid construction to meet housing targets in an area with a shortage of supply.
Economic Boost: Supporting Poole’s economy with new jobs, construction opportunities, and sustaining the tourism and night-time economy.
Healthy Communities: Enhancing Poole’s vibrant communities with access to key facilities and promoting healthy, active lifestyles.
Sustainable Development: Significant carbon savings and the use of renewable and low carbon energy sources, aligning with climate change objectives.
This project aligns with local and national policies, aiming to regenerate Poole town center and strengthen its community and economy. We are proud to contribute to Poole's bright future.
A big thank you to the dedicated ARC team and all the consultants who worked tirelessly to make this project a reality!
